Thoman O'Gorman was a professor of church history and the Chair of the Ecclesiastical History department at the Catholic University of America from 1890 to 1896. In 1896, he was appointed Bishop of Sioux Falls, North Dakota. A position he held from 1896 to 1920. Wiliam James Onahan was born in Ireland in 1836. Onahan became a well-known Chicago businessman and civic leader. He wrote for numerous Catholic journals and was chosen to organize the Catholic Lay Congress in Baltimore, Md. in 1889. In September of 1893 he served as secretary of the Committee of Organization at the Columbian Catholic Congress held in Chicago. Onahan died in 1919 in Chicago.
